New DiS: Thank You For Your Patience | Drowned In Sound
Most of the issues are due to the fact that the back-end of the site is 13 years old. DiS has undergone several different coding language translations over the years and we’re paying the price for quick fixes and limited resources… and for launching a website in a time before WordPress… I realise this probably sounds super boring, but if you can imagine someone translating Tom Wolfe’s Electric Kool-aid Acid Test into Latin, then Cantonese, and then back into American English… if you can comprehend what that might read like then, and only then, will you begin to understand what a mess things are in the cassette-tape-intestines spooling everywhere belly of the beast that is DiS.
Shit. I remember being a regular visitor to DiS many, many years ago. Hell, I remember going to a DiS-organised (no pun attended) Biffy Clyro gig at the Windmill in Brixton about ten years ago… I still have a badge from that gig somewhere.
So it’s cool to read Sean Adams’ words about the website’s long overdue redesign – and especially interesting to note that they are removing comments. One thing I know about DiS is its voracious message board community – although I’ve no idea if it’s as active/incestuous/educational/patronising/sarcastic/fun as it always used to be.
One thing’s for sure: on the strength of Sean’s post, above, I’ve re-added DiS to my RSS feeds and will make a habit of checking the site out more regularly in future.
