That's fantastic, Robyn! I'd heard of instances of this happening 'by accident' - very cool. I've certainly never seen anything remotely like it before, although as a kid (and, as most kids are, I suspect) I used to be fascinated by the lights moving across my ceiling as cars drove past my house or similar.

This is so cool! I accidentally experience the camera obscura effect at my old flat. I had a skylight with a blind over it, a bit of black fabric that didn't quite sit flat against the ceiling. One morning I noticed I could see a likeness of clouds on my bedroom wall and figured out what had happened. Amazing! But your post has inspired me to get busy with some bin liners.

Hello again, having looked at the article by Mr Vernon you refer to he is not actually writing about "tapesponding" clubs. He is writing about "tape recording clubs" which, rather like amateur radio and camera societies, sprang up throughout the UK during the 1960s as people found they could afford a home tape recorder. Mr Vernon was involved with those. There would be a talk about something, then people would play tapes submitted for this month's subject and choose the best, and so on. I went along once to a meeting of the Leicester tape recording club which was held in a meeting room at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery. I was one of only two young people there and found a bit of an age and culture gap. It wasn't really my thing.

I do not recognise Philip's code.

Best wishes to everyone, Paul

I've managed to get along to this now - the first time was in the morning a couple of hours before they opened - and it was very good. Certainly very interesting seeing the stuff (adding reality to the rumours) about the tunnels.

The only thing that could have been added to it (if it exists anywhere, ever) is to add flesh to the Nazi rumours about how Hitler planned to use the Midland Hotel as his base in the North of England after the war. Now wouldn't you like to see those fanciful plans too!

Thanks for the 'review' Paul. The catalogue is at the printers now and should be available in a week or so to buy. We are trying to keep the costs down to just enough to cover production, so hopefully not too steep.

Yep - that's the one. And yes it is still owned by BT, or some similar partner, and still has cables in it. Just no über-secret nuclear bunker stuff any more.

Is the “Guardian Exchange” the rumoured nuclear bunker underneath Piccadilly Gardens which is supposedly part of the tunnel network? From what I have heard – as you say Chinese whispers on the Web – that is where BT have their cables as it was exposed when there was a fire there a few years back.
