Started the day off nicely with Lauren Laverne’s new 6music show. I’m absolutely thrilled about this as I hated George Lamb roughly the same amount that I love Laverne. So this is a good deal for me.
Once I was up and about I popped to the library to collect a book I’d ordered. I do love having a library 5 minutes’ walk away from my front door and I am trying to use it as much as I can. That said, I’ve so far only used it to order stock in or return items. Must have a nose around next time. They even have a Christmas tree outside! It’s not on the most glamorous high street either, so this was a nice surprise.
In the afternoon, John and I popped into town for some bits. I say ‘popped’; we actually waited longer for a bus than we ever have done in Manchester. Seriously, for the busiest bus route in Europe (or whatever), the wait was agonising. The cold didn’t help either. It was a slow chug into town, and a packed bus. I got a call from mum which both alarmed me and set my mind at rest after some recent events. Funny how calls from mums will do that…
At Piccadilly Gardens, I left John to head to the Apple Store while I went up Oldham Street to the pet store. Oldham Street’s always a mixed bag, with its record stores, hair supply shops, venues, bars and restaurants… And then the further you get up the road, the odder (and more derelict) things become. I heard some drums being soundchecked in a rehearsal room before stepping over some pretty stale vomit near a similarly-appetising takeaway.
Turning the corner onto Swan Street, I found the pet store and enquired about some bits for Wilhelm. Nothing in stock, sadly. Will have to try somewhere else or pop back when they’ve taken delivery.
Walked back down towards the Arndale Centre – Market Street is hellish when it’s busy. I wouldn’t mind, it’s just some people seem to have the spacial awareness of a toddler. Found John and then we picked up some groceries in the supermarket in the Centre – a weird sensation. Buying groceries in a mall, I mean really…
Jumped on the bus home and made the most of the slow progress that 5pm on Oxford Road brings. When we stepped into our house, suddenly a prospective name came to us for a new project we may have lined up. When things like that happen, it really reinforces the sense that we have something of a partnership going on. Having not had videos and such like to work on for months, it is reassuring to think we may have something new to collaborate on again soon.
I am eating quite a lot of Digestive biscuits at the moment.
